NOTIFICATION OF TRANSACTIONS OF DIRECTORS, PERSONS DISCHARGING MANAGERIAL
RESPONSIBILITY OR CONNECTED PERSONS


Notification made in accordance with Section 324 (as extended by Section 328) of
the Companies Act 1985 and Disclosure Rule 3.1.4R(1)(a) of the Disclosure Rules
sourcebook.


The independent Trustee of the British American Tobacco Group Employee Trust
notified the Company on 22 March 2006 that it had on 20 March 2006 released
1,616,221 British American Tobacco p.l.c. 25p ordinary shares (the "Shares") to
participants in the Deferred Share Bonus Scheme.  Of these Shares, a total of
198,834 Shares were released to the following executive directors and other
persons discharging managerial responsibility (together "the Participants") as
follows:

* Of the 17,835 Deferred Shares referred to under Total Beneficial Interests for

Following these transactions, the independent trustee of the British American
Tobacco Group Employee Trust holds a total of 20,369,724 Shares.
