RESPONSIBILITY OR CONNECTED PERSONS





Notification made in accordance with Section 324 (as extended by 328) of the
Companies Act 1985 and Disclosure Rule 3.1.4R(1)(a) of the Disclosure Rules
sourcebook.



The Company was notified on 13 July 2005 by the trustee of the British American
Tobacco Employee Share Ownership Plan that on 12 July 2005 the following
executive directors and other persons discharging managerial responsibility
(together the "Participants") had purchased ordinary shares of 25p each in
British American Tobacco p.l.c. (the "Shares") by way of the Partnership Share
Scheme at a price of 1086p per Share.
