DIRECTORS' SHAREHOLDINGS

The Company was notified on 30 April 2003 by the trustee of the British American
Tobacco Employee Share Ownership Plan that on 29 April 2003 the following
directors had purchased ordinary shares of 25p each in British American Tobacco
p.l.c. (the "Shares") by way of the Partnership Share Scheme at a price of 600p
per Share.
