The Company was notified on 15 February 2005 by the trustee of the British
American Tobacco Employee Share Ownership Plan that on 10 February 2005 the
following directors had purchased ordinary shares of 25p each in British
American Tobacco p.l.c. (the "Shares") by way of the Partnership Share Scheme at
a price of 970p per Share.
