DIRECTORS' SHAREHOLDINGS - CORRECTION



As a result of an administrative error, the total number of British American
Tobacco p.l.c. 25p ordinary shares (the "Shares") held by the independent
trustee of the British American Tobacco Group Employee Trust were understated in
the Company's announcement made on 5 April 2005.



The total number of Shares held by the independent trustee of the British
American Tobacco Group Employee Trust should have been stated in the Company's
announcement made on 5 April 2005 as being 23,210,345.
