                           ROTHMANS UK PARTNERSHIP

British American Tobacco announces the withdrawal of the Philip Morris partner
from the Rothmans UK partnership. This results in the partnership being free
to operate as a wholly owned British American Tobacco group entity within the
UK.

The partnership employs over three hundred people and enjoys a national
distribution capability. The UK market share of the Rothmans' brands,
including Dunhill, Rothmans King Size, Royals and Consulate is 7%.

The strong sales and marketing capability, which has been developed in the
partnership, and the brand portfolio available are an excellent base to take
British American Tobacco's business in the UK forward.
