Appointment of Deputy Chairman

The British Land Company PLC announces the appointment of Mr Derek Higgs BA
FCA as Deputy Chairman of the Company. Mr Higgs joined the Board of British
Land in July 2000 as a non-executive Director and is a member of the
Remuneration, Audit and Nomination Committees.

Mr Higgs is Senior Adviser in the UK to UBS Warburg and Chairman of Business
in the Environment, Partnerships UK plc and the IPD Index Consultative Group.
His other appointments include membership of the Financial Reporting Council
and non-executive directorships of Egg plc, Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., London
Regional Transport and Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c.
