The British Land Company PLC announces the following purchases of the Company's
ordinary shares of 25p by Directors of the Company:

J H Ritblat                                 9,080 at 515p each
N S J Ritblat                               4,579 at 515p each

These purchases were in consequence of standing elections to participate in the
Company's Dividend Re-investment Plan, whereby cash dividends are automatically
reinvested in the Company's shares.   These shares were purchased on 21st August
2002 and credited to the Directors' accounts on 5th  September 2002.
