Board changes at British Land
The Board of The British Land Company PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of two new non-executive directors with effect from 1st September 2008. They are Aubrey Adams, formerly Chief Executive of Savills and John Gildersleeve, Chairman of Carphone Warehouse Group.
British Land also announces that Sir David Michels will be standing down as a Non-executive Director at this year's Annual General Meeting on 11th July. Following Sir David's departure, Robert Swannell will take the role of Senior Independent Non-executive Director and Lord Turnbull will be appointed as Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. In addition, Mr Adams will join the Audit Committee and Mr Gildersleeve will join the Remuneration Committee.
Chris Gibson-Smith, Chairman said "We are sorry to see the departure of Sir David who has contributed greatly to our Board, but very pleased to have attracted two such strong additions in Aubrey Adams and John Gildersleeve.
We are very pleased that Robert Swannell has agreed to take on the role of Senior Independent Non-executive Director in addition to his existing role as Chairman of the Audit Committee and that Lord Turnbull will become Remuneration Committee Chairman."

Sir David Michels - On 18th March 2008 British Land announced that Sir David would be retiring at a date to be agreed due to the pressure of other business commitments. Sir David joined British Land in 2003. He has been Senior Independent Non-executive Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee.

Aubrey Adams
Aubrey Adams was until May 2008 Chief Executive of Savills, a leading global retail estates service provider with revenues over £300m and some 18,000 employees. He is Non-executive Chairman of Air Partner, the world's largest corporate aircraft charter company and was formerly Senior Non-executive Director, Associated British Ports. He is a Non-executive Director of Unitech Corporate Parks which is a business focussed on Indian Real Estate investment. He is also a Trustee of the Wigmore Hall. He is a graduate of Cambridge University.
John Gildersleeve
John Gildersleeve is Chairman of Carphone Warehouse Group where he has been a Non-executive Director since 2001. He joined the Board of EMI Group in February 2004 when he also became Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Non-executive Director. In January 2007 he was appointed Non-executive Chairman of EMI Group which position he held until the UK music group's purchase by private equity in 2007. Until February 2004, he was the Commercial &Trading Director of Tesco Plc. He joined Tesco in 1965 and became an Executive Director in 1984. He was formerly Chairman of Gallaher Group and a Non-executive Director of Lloyds TSB Bank Plc from 1994-1997 and Vodafone Group from 1998-1999.
