Following the announcement of his appointment to the Board of Marks & Spencer Group plc, Robert Swannell has offered his resignation as a non-executive director of The British Land Company PLC in recognition of the amount of time he is to devote to that new role. British Land's Board has accepted Mr Swannell's resignation with effect from 1st October, 2010.

Chris Gibson-Smith, Chairman of The British Land Company PLC, commented

"The Board would like to record our deep gratitude and appreciation to Robert for his exceptional contribution to British Land over some eleven years, with service as Audit Committee Chairman and Senior Independent Director. We offer Robert our very best wishes for the future."
