The British Land Company announces that it received notification on 23rd July
2001, pursuant to sections 198-202 of Companies Act 1985, that while Schroder
Investment Management Limited continues to have an interest in the ordinary
25p shares of the Company, it has ceased to be a notifiable interest for the
purposes of Part VI of the Companies Act 1985 since it represents less than
10% of the relevant share capital.


This announcement is made on behalf of Schroder Investment Management Limited
(as investment managers), Schroder Unit Trusts Limited and Schroder Investment
Management North America Limited (both wholly- owned subsidiaries), Schroder
Investment Management North America Inc, (an affiliated company) and Schroders
plc (the holding company).
