BellSouth Announces Officer Appointments
September 29, 2000 Atlanta,-- BellSouth today announced the appointment of Gary
D. Forsee as vice chairman of the company and president of BellSouth
International and Charles C. (Buddy) Miller as BellSouth Corporation executive
vice president and chief staff officer.
In addition, Valencia I. Adams, vice president of Consumer Services for
BellSouth's Georgia and Florida operations, and Alberto Gonzalez-Pita, vice
president and group counsel - BellSouth International, have been elected
officers of the company.
All changes are effective October 1.
Gary Forsee, currently BellSouth's executive vice president and chief staff
officer, joined the company in 1999 with 27 years' experience in the global
communications industry. Prior to joining BellSouth, Forsee was president and
chief executive officer of Global One, the global communications joint venture
involving Sprint, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom. He was responsible for
all financial and operational aspects of the company, which had a sales presence
in more than 65 countries.
'This new assignment is a good match for Gary's international experience and
recognizes the contributions he's made in his recent role as BellSouth's chief
staff officer,' said Duane Ackerman, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of BellSouth Corporation. 'This experience will be a tremendous asset to
BellSouth as we continue to increase our presence and customer base
internationally.'
Buddy Miller, who joined BellSouth in 1987, has previous experience in strategic
planning and corporate development to complement his international experience.
Prior to being appointed president of BellSouth International, Miller held the
positions of vice president - Corporate Development for BellSouth Enterprises
and vice president of strategic planning and development for BellSouth
Corporation.
'Under Buddy's direction over the past five years, our international operations
have shown excellent growth,' said Ackerman. 'Now, as chief staff officer, Buddy
will turn his attention to our domestic operations.'
As vice president, Consumer Services, Valencia Adams oversees BellSouth's
consumer operations for both Georgia and Florida. Since joining BellSouth in
1969, Adams has gained a wide range of experience, including positions in
consumer services, human resources, marketing and operations.
'Valencia's broad experience in consumer services, marketing and human resources
during her 31-year career with BellSouth gives her a breadth and depth of
expertise that is a great asset to our company in this increasingly competitive
environment,' said Ike Harris, president, Consumer Services. Adams will continue
reporting to Harris in her new position.
As vice president, secretary and general counsel for BellSouth International, Al
Gonzalez-Pita is responsible for all legal matters relating to BellSouth's
international business. He joined BellSouth in 1999, bringing with him more than
20 years of experience with major private law firms handling corporate and
international legal matters, including extensive work with mergers and
acquisitions, privatizations and public offerings of debt and equity securities.
'Al's extensive experience with mergers and acquisitions as well as
privatizations and public offerings give him a valuable perspective on our
business and the challenges we face, both domestically and internationally,'
said Charles Morgan, BellSouth executive vice president and general counsel.
Gonzalez-Pita will continue reporting to Morgan in his new role and will remain
a member of the BellSouth International executive team.
