BELLSOUTH ELECTS NEW DIRECTOR TO BOARD
Atlanta - BellSouth Corporation (NYSE:BLS) announced today the election of
Eugene 'Gene' F. Murphy, retired vice chairman of General Electric Company, to
the BellSouth Board of Directors.
'Gene brings a great deal of strategic and operational experience to the
BellSouth Board of Directors,' said Duane Ackerman, Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of BellSouth. 'His background makes him a welcome addition as BellSouth
continues to grow its worldwide presence.'
Murphy, 63, is a graduate of Queens College in New York City and went on to
Fordham University where he was awarded his LL.B. He also was awarded his LL.M
in International Law from Georgetown University.
During his career, Murphy has been President and CEO of GE Aircraft Engines, GE
Aerospace, GE Communications and Services, and RCA Communications, Inc.
