BellSouth Shareholders to Vote at Annual Meeting in April
ATLANTA - March 2, 2000 - BellSouth Corporation (BLS: NYSE) today announced that
James P. Kelly, Chairman and CEO of United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS) and Joseph
M. Magliochetti, President and CEO of the Dana Corporation, have been nominated
to the company's Board of Directors. The two nominations will be voted on at
BellSouth's annual meeting of shareholders to be held Monday, April 24 in
Atlanta.
'Mr. Kelly and Mr. Magliochetti each have a wealth of experience in growing
companies in a global economy. Their breadth of knowledge in domestic and
international business makes them ideal candidates for our board,' said Duane
Ackerman, Chairman and CEO of BellSouth.
James P. Kelly has served as Chairman and CEO of UPS, the world's largest
package distribution company and logistics provider, since 1997. In addition to
his corporate responsibilities, Kelly is a member of the President's Export
Council, an advisory committee supporting international trade. He is Chairman
of the US-ASEAN Business Council, a leading organisation promoting trade and
investment in Southeast Asia.
Kelly serves on the Boards of Georgia-Pacific and the Welfare-to-Work
Partnership, as well as the Board of Councilors for the Carter Center. He also
is a trustee for The Annie E. Casey Foundation, the nation's largest charitable
organisation dedicated to disadvantaged youth. Kelly is a graduate of Rutgers
University.
Joseph M. Magliochetti was promoted to President and CEO of the Dana Corporation
in 1999. The Dana Corporation operates in 32 countries and is one of the
world's largest independent suppliers to vehicular, off-highway, and industrial
manufacturers. In February, Dana's Board of Directors elected Magliochetti
Chairman effective April 5, 2000.
He also serves on the Boards of Danaven and Spicer, S.A., the Motor and
Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), and the National Association of
Manufacturers. He is a member of the U.S. Business Roundtable and its Policy
Committee and the MEMA/JAMA Liaison Committee, which cultivates automotive trade
relations with Japan. Magliochetti was educated at the University of Illinois
and graduated from the Harvard Advanced Management Program.
BellSouth's annual meeting will be held on Monday, April 24, 2000 at 9:00 a.m.
at the Cobb Galleria Centre Ballroom, Two Galleria Parkway, Atlanta, Georgia.
