BellSouth Announces Executive Changes
Nov. 30, 2000, Atlanta - BellSouth Corporation has announced the following
executive changes, effective Dec. 1, 2000.
Charles C.(Buddy) Miller, EVP and chief staff officer, is leaving BellSouth to
accept a position as vice chairman of Level 3 Communications.
Prior to being named to his current position in October of this year, Miller,
who joined BellSouth in 1987, served as president of BellSouth International;
vice president of corporate development for BellSouth Enterprises; and vice
president of strategic planning and development for BellSouth Corporation.
'Buddy has made many positive contributions during his tenure with us,' said
Duane Ackerman, chairman and chief executive officer of BellSouth. 'We wish him
well in his new position.'
'My 13 years at BellSouth have been among the best of my life,' said Miller.
'BellSouth is a great institution, and its people include many of my closest and
most respected friends. But this opportunity is too exciting to pass up.'
Keith Cowan, vice president of corporate development for BellSouth Corporation,
has been promoted to chief planning and development officer for the corporation.
In his new position, Cowan will assume many of the responsibilities currently
held by Miller. Cowan joined BellSouth in his current role in 1996. Prior to
that time, he was a partner with Alston and Bird.
'Keith has contributed significantly to the growth of BellSouth in his years
with us,' said BellSouth Chairman and CEO Duane Ackerman. 'His knowledge and
expertise will serve him well - and will benefit us - as he oversees corporate
planning and development.'
A native of Windsor, Conn., Cowan received his undergraduate degree in economics
and political science from the University of North Carolina and his JD degree
from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Also promoted is Jan Funderburg, currently general manager - Network & Carrier

Services, replacing Bill McNair, who has been named vice president - Network
staff and regional centers for the corporation.
In her new role, Funderburg will be responsible for service delivery and
assurance to BellSouth's interconnection customers, including interexchange
carriers and competitive local exchange carriers.
Funderburg attended Georgia State University. She held positions in Operator
Services, Human Resources, Network Operations, sales and marketing and Small
Business Services prior to being named to her current position as operations
vice president - Customer Services in 1997.
'Jan's leadership in establishing the operational centers used by our CLEC and
interexchange carrier customers, combined with her work in helping the company
meet its obligations under the Telecom Act, will be critically important in her
new position,' said Charlie Coe, BellSouth president - Network Services. 'This
experience will prove invaluable as we continue our efforts to gain entry into
the long distance business.'
McNair was elected an officer and named vice president - Corporate Affairs of
BellSouth in 1990. Subsequent positions have included vice president - Carrier
Services, vice president - Network operations, and vice president -
Interconnection operations. He assumed his current position on Jan. 1, 1998,
