Suzanne Detlefs to Lead Strategic Management Unit
John Robinson Named President, BAPCO
ATLANTA - January 6, 2000 - BellSouth Corporation (NYSE: BLS) today announced
that BellSouth Advertising and Publishing President, Suzanne Detlefs, has been
named Vice President, Strategic Management for the Corporation. John Robinson,
currently in that position, has been named President, BellSouth Advertising and
Publishing Corporation (BAPCO). The organizational changes are effective
February 1.
In her new role, Detlefs will manage the direction and implementation of
BellSouth's corporate strategy. Detlefs will report to Bill Reddersen,
Executive Vice President, Strategic Planning who is responsible for overall
corporate-wide strategic planning. As president of BAPCO, Detlefs delivered
solid growth in revenues and net income. Under her leadership, BAPCO also
launched the redesign of key business processes to improve customer focus and
reduce expenses as well as replacing core information architecture and systems.
Additionally, she assisted in the development of a partnership with the
Communications Workers of America to implement a 'mutual gains' approach to
collective bargaining in 1998.
'Suzanne has been an extremely effective BAPCO president during a period of
transition. She brings a diverse background to her new assignment and I wish her
well,' said Don Perozzi, President, Advertising and Publishing Group. 'I look
forward to working with John as president of BAPCO. John's background in
planning and the Internet will be critical as BAPCO moves into a world of paper
and electronic products.'
Robinson joined BellSouth in 1993 as executive director of business development.
Two years later he launched BellSouth.net Inc., the
Company's electronic and Internet services subsidiary. Within one year of
BellSouth.net's launch, it became the second largest Internet service
provider (ISP) in the Southeast and the fastest-growing ISP in the nation. In
his new role, Robinson will report to Don Perozzi who heads BellSouth's domestic
and international electronic and printed directories.
'John has contributed greatly to the overall direction and implementation
of BellSouth's corporate strategy,' said Gary Forsee, Chief Staff Officer
who leads BellSouth's corporate-wide business strategy, development and
merger and acquisition activities. 'Suzanne's experience and expertise
will be very beneficial to our corporate strategy group. I look forward
to working with her.'
Mr. Robinson received his Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters of Business
Administration degree from Vanderbilt University.
Ms. Detlefs joined BellSouth in 1988. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree
in economics from Hollins College and a Master's degree in management from
Yale University.
