                  BT WIRELESS SENIOR MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENT

     Vivek Dev takes role of chief operating officer to manage 3G network
                                 development

BT wireless has announced the first new post for its senior management team
following the appointment of David Varney as Chairman-designate of BT
wireless.

Vivek Dev, currently Chief Finance Officer for BT wireless, moves up to a
general management post as Chief Operating Officer with immediate effect at BT
Cellnet, with particular responsibility for network development and
infrastructure sharing.

The appointment follows the announcement of the ground-breaking agreement
between BT wireless and T-Mobile to share and reduce the cost of developing
the third generation mobile networks.

David Varney said: 'I am delighted Vivek Dev has accepted this new business
critical role to drive the cost-effective development and roll-out of a new
era of mobile services. His combination of industry knowledge and financial
expertise makes Dev our first choice for this new role in the crucial UK
market.'

The appointment commences with immediate effect and reports to Dave McGlade,
Managing Director, BT Cellnet.
