GARY WEIS TO BE NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE
OFFICER OF CONCERT
BT and AT&T today announced that Gary Weis, president and chief operating
officer of Concert, has been appointed that company's acting chief executive
officer with immediate effect.
In this temporary role, Gary Weis will report to BT's chairman, Sir Iain
Vallance, who is also chairman of Concert.
David Dorman, the previous chief executive officer, has been appointed
president of AT&T.
Concert
Concert, (www.concert.com) the US$7 billion global venture of AT&T and BT,
serves the global communications needs of business customers worldwide. It is
the industry's pre-eminent 'carriers' carrier,' providing wholesale
transborder services to fixed and wireless carriers, including AT&T and BT, as
well as Internet Service Providers worldwide. In addition, Concert offers a
comprehensive portfolio of voice, data and Internet services to customers
through a direct sales force serving 270 multinational customers (MNCs).
Through its network of 50-plus distributors, it also serves an additional
targeted base of 29,000 customers worldwide. Concert's frame relay network
serves every major city in the United States and the United Kingdom, and
extends to over 200 cities in 60 countries. Its global public network directly

* BT Wholesale, selling network capacity and call terminations to other
carriers.
BT and AT&T have also created Concert, the leading global telecommunications
company serving multi-national business customers, international carriers and
Internet service providers worldwide.
In November 2000, BT accelerated its radical structural transformation. A
separate network company, NetCo, will be created with the strategic intent of
listing up to 25%; focus will be tightened to within Western Europe and Japan;
up to 25% of BT Wireless will be listed in 2001; up to 25% of Yell will be
listed by the end of March 2001; and BT Ignite will be developed by the end of
2001 into a position from which it could be listed.
In the year to March 31, 2000, BT's total turnover, including its share of its
ventures' turnover, was £21,903m with a pre-tax profit of £2,942m.
