    NOTIFICATION OF DIRECTORS' INTERESTS IN THE ORDINARY SHARES OF BRITISH
                            TELECOMMUNICATIONS plc

Increase in technical interests in respect of:

Sir Peter Bonfield

Sir Christopher Bland

Philip Hampton

As a result of an appropriation of shares to satisfy distribution of special
top-up dividend payments to option holders, the technical interest, under
section 13 of the Companies Act 1985, of each of the above-named directors in
the ordinary shares of 25p each of the Company has increased by 5,289,326
shares.

There have been no other changes in the directors' technical or individual
interests.
