     British Telecommunications plc announces that
     following formal reviews, its solicited credit
     ratings have been removed from creditwatch and
     confirmed as follows:
     
                    Long Term      Short Term       Outlook
     
     Moody's             A2             P1             Stable
     
     Standard & Poors    A              A1             Negative
     
     
     
     BT deferred its plans to proceed with a Global Bond
     offering in early September while the reviews were
     in progress.   Following the rating confirmations,
     BT will schedule future debt capital market
     transactions to take advantage of attractive market
     conditions.
