NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES IN DIRECTORS' INTERESTS IN THE
ORDINARY SHARES OF BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS plc

Under the 2000 operation of the BT Employee Share Ownership
Scheme ('the Scheme'), 66 ordinary shares of 25p each of the
Company were appropriated by the trustee (BT Employee Shares
Trustees Limited) free of charge to each employee who was
eligible to participate in the Scheme.  As a result, Sir
Iain Vallance, Sir Peter Bonfield, Robert Brace and Bill
Cockburn have each acquired a beneficial interest in a
further 66 shares on 17 August 2000.

Following the appropriation of ordinary shares to eligible
employees, and an adjustment to the pool balance, Sir Iain
Vallance, Sir Peter Bonfield, Robert Brace and Bill
Cockburn, together with all employees of BT, each now have a
technical interest under Schedule 13 of the Companies Act 1985, 
in 90,722 ordinary shares held by BT Employee Shares Trustees 
Limited in respect of the BT Employee Share Ownership Scheme.

There have been no other changes to the directors' interests.
