BT ANNOUNCES BOARD CHANGES
BT today announced that Sir Anthony Greener, chairman of
University for Industry Ltd, and former chairman of
Diageo plc, will join the board as a non-executive
director from October 1, 2000.
It is intended that he will become joint deputy
chairman from January 1, 2001 and succeed Lord Marshall
as deputy chairman from the date of the BT annual general
meeting in 2001.
Lord Marshall will retire from the BT board at
the end of the 2001 AGM.
BT also announced that Keith Oates will retire as
a non-executive director on December 31, 2000.
Sir Iain Vallance, chairman of BT, said: 'I am
delighted that Sir Anthony Greener is joining the BT
board. His vast experience in managing major
international organisations will be invaluable to BT as
we continue both to expand our global activities and to
complete our transformation into a new wave internet and
multimedia business. I am particularly pleased that Sir
Anthony has agreed to become BT's deputy chairman in
succession to Lord Marshall.'
He continued:'Colin Marshall joined the BT board
in April, 1995 and became deputy chairman from January
1, 1996. His contribution, both to the board's
consideration of BT's strategy and some of the major
challenges we faced, and as the chairman of the company's
audit and remuneration committees, cannot be
overestimated. He has also always been available when
needed to provide sound advice and guidance for the
board.'
'The board also wants to thank Keith Oates for
his valuable contribution since he joined on June 1,
1994. In addition to the time he has devoted to the
board, Keith has also had a significant involvement in
the work of BT's principal board committees. We wish him
all the best for the future.'
