British Telecommunications PLC 19 September 2001 BT ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BT today announced that Dr Iain Anderson will retire as a non-executive director on 30 September 2001. Dr Anderson has been on the BT Board for six years. He is currently chairman of BT's Pensions Committee, as well as being a member of the Audit, Remuneration and Nominating Committees. He will continue as Chairman of the BT Scotland Board. BT's Chairman, Sir Christopher Bland, said 'On behalf of the BT Board, I would like to thank Iain for his contribution to BT during what we all know has been a period of immense challenge and change. I am very pleased that he will be continuing to lead the BT Scotland Board'. Biographical Details Dr Iain Anderson was appointed to the Board of BT in 1995. He is Chairman of the Board of BT Scotland. Dr Anderson joined the Board of Unilever in 1988 and was its strategy and technology director until he retired in May 1998. He is chairman of Intense Photonics, a non-executive director of Scottish & Newcastle, and a director of Scottish Science Trust and the Leverhulme Trust. He was special adviser to the Prime Minister on Millennium Compliance (Y2K). He has also recently been appointed to chair an independent enquiry into the foot and mouth epidemic.
