BUNZL APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN

Bunzl plc, the international distribution and outsourcing Group, today announces the appointment of Philip Rogerson as Chairman and the retirement of Jeff Harris, currently Interim Chairman.  

Mr Rogerson will join the Board as Chairman designate on 1 January 2010 and will become Chairman with effect from 1 March 2010. In order to take up his appointment he will retire from his present positions as Chairman of Northgate plc on 31 December 2009 and non-executive director of Davis Service Group plc on 28 February 2010. Mr Rogerson will remain as Chairman of Aggreko plc and Carillion plc.

Mr Rogerson will succeed Jeff Harris who assumed the role of Interim Chairman following the retirement of Anthony Habgood in July this year. Mr Harris, who has been a non-executive director since August 2000, will retire from the Board (in line with normal practice) on 28 February 2010.

Commenting on the changes, Michael Roney, Chief Executive of Bunzl, said:

Notes:

Philip Rogerson is a British national who is currently Chairman of Aggreko plc, Carillion plc and Northgate plc and Senior Independent Director of Davis Service Group plc. He has also previously held positions as a non-executive director of a number of companies including THUS Group plc and Viridian Group plc.  Apart from these directorships, there are no details in respect of Mr Rogerson which are required to be disclosed pursuant to paragraph 9.6.13 of the Listing Rules of the UK Listing Authority.

After qualifying as an accountant, Mr Rogerson spent a significant part of his career in various positions at Imperial Chemical Industries PLC before joining British Gas PLC in 1992, initially as Group Finance Director, subsequently becoming Executive Director responsible for the Asia Pacific, Transco and British Gas Properties businesses and then Deputy Chairman when he oversaw the demerger of Centrica plc.
