An ADR is a security that has been created to permit US investors to hold shares in non-US companies and trade them on securities markets in the United States. In contrast to underlying ordinary shares, ADRs permit US investors to trade in US dollars in the US securities markets with US securities dealers, in the same way as they trade securities issued by US companies. Investors can receive dividend payments in US dollars.
