Appointment of additional non-executive directors

The Board of Caledonia Investments plc ("Caledonia") is pleased to announce the appointments of Rod Kent and Robert Woods as independent non-executive directors with effect from 1 October 2011 and 1 November 2011 respectively.

Mr Kent was Managing Director of Close Brothers Group plc for 28 years until 2002 and then a non-executive director and latterly Chairman until 2008. He was a non-executive director and then Chairman of M&G Group plc from 1995 until its sale to the Prudential Group in 1999, Senior Independent Director of Whitbread plc from 2002 to 2007, Chairman of Bradford & Bingley plc from 2002 to 2008 and Chairman of BT Pension Trustees Ltd from 2008 to 1 March 2011. He is currently a non-executive director of Grosvenor Group Ltd and a Governor of the Wellcome Trust.

Mr Woods, who joined P&O Steam Navigation Company ("P&O") in 1971, was appointed to its Board in 1996 and became Chief Executive in 2004. Following the takeover of P&O by DP World Ltd in March 2006, he continued as co-Chief Executive until September of that year, at which time he retired from his executive role. He was a non-executive director of Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd from 2006 to 2010 and remains Chairman of P&O Ferries, Southampton Container Terminal and Tilbury Container Services and is a non-executive director of John Swire & Sons Ltd. He is currently Chairman of the Mission to Seafarers and was awarded the CBE in 2003.

Commenting on the appointments, James Loudon, Chairman of Caledonia, said:
