                      Sandwip East-1 Exploration Well                       



Cairn announces that the Sandwip East-1 exploration well located offshore in
Block 15  Bangladesh has been plugged and abandoned following the discovery of
sub-commercial gas volumes.

Sandwip East-1 was drilled under the Block 15 Production Sharing Contract with
Petrobangla in a Joint Venture with Shell Bangladesh Exploration and
Development B.V. 

The rig has subsequently been moved from the Sandwip East-1 well location to
Block 16, where the Joint Venture is currently drilling South Sangu-2.
