CAIRN ENERGY PLC ("Cairn" or "the Company")

Interests of Director in the Company's Shares

Cairn announces that on 12 December 2012, Lady Janice Gammell, the wife of the Company Chairman, Sir Bill Gammell, sold 551,909 Ordinary Shares of ²³¹/₁₆₉ each in the Company at a price of £2.6326 per share.

In addition, two trusts in which Sir Bill Gammell has a beneficial interest also sold a total of 98,764 Ordinary Shares at a price of £2.6326 per share on 12 December 2012. 

Following this announcement, Sir Bill Gammell's beneficial interests in the Ordinary Shares of the Company are as follows:-
