Carillion wins work for Scottish Prisons worth up to £90 million
Carillion has been chosen by the Scottish Prison Service to undertake major
building work and the provision of mechanical and electrical engineering
services to its properties throughout Scotland.
Two Carillion companies, Carillion Building and Crown House Engineering have
been awarded framework contracts under which they will be responsible for up to
a total of around £15 million worth of work per annum. These contracts are
initially for three years with the potential to extend to six years in total.
The Carillion companies will be responsible for the programme of works in the
Scottish Prison Service's 15 establishments, in addition to the headquarters,
central store and college facilities.
The decision to appoint framework contractors is part of the Scottish Prison
Service's strategy for demonstrating value for money in a process of
collaborative working, involving an integrated team approach for delivering its
capital building programme. Having previously appointed both design services
and cost consultants in long-term, strategic partnering arrangements, the Prison
Service then sought contractor services to complement the team.
Carillion Building, one of the UK's leading construction companies, and Crown
House Engineering, one of the foremost mechanical and electrical services
contractors, were selected in accordance with the EU Procedures to bid for the
Building framework and the M&E framework. Both companies have operational bases
in Scotland with considerable experience of working throughout the country.
Carillion Building has already undertaken work for the Scottish Prison Service,
whilst Crown House Engineering has significant experience of working within
framework agreements.
Commenting on the awards, Carillion chief executive John McDonough said, 'We are
delighted to have secured these framework agreements and to be developing our
collaborative partnership with the Scottish Prison Service. This success is in
line with our strategy for our Construction Services businesses of providing
high quality services working in long term relationships with key customers.'
Carillion Building and Crown House Engineering are currently working on a £2.6
million contract at Barlinnie prison, in Glasgow in addition to undertaking
smaller works at the Inverness , Glenochil and Perth establishments .
