Carillion wins second major Channel Tunnel Rail Link contract
Construction and business services leader Carillion has won its second major
Channel Tunnel Rail Link contract
Carillion Rail has been awarded the £92 million infrastructure maintenance
contract for section one of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link - the 46 miles from the
Channel Tunnel to Fawkham Junction in north Kent - by Union Railways.
Earlier this month a Carillion consortium was awarded the £120 million contract
to design and construct the track and overhead line system on section two of the
CTRL, from Ebbsfleet to London St Pancras.
The infrastructure maintenance contract will run until at least 2012 and will
have a dedicated team of around 100 people. The works will include the
maintenance and renewal of track, signalling, telecoms, overhead catenary
equipment, fixed plant and landscaping.
Carillion Chief Executive John McDonough said, 'This has been a very successful
month for Carillion Rail, which was recently named as the best rail maintenance
operator in the country for the second year running.
'Securing these two prestigious CTRL contracts enables us to expand our presence
in the south east, which is due to benefit from high levels of investment, to
complement our extensive rail operations in other areas of the UK. These now
include line maintenance stretching from the Channel Tunnel through to the
Scottish border and underline the strength of our rail infrastructure services
capability and the success of our strategy to grow this important area of our
business.'
