Re Contract

Carillion PLC 02 September 2002 Carillion consortium wins £120 million CTRL contract Carillion, one of the UK's leading business and construction services companies, has won a major role in the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. Carillion, with its joint venture partners ALSTOM and Travaux du Sud-Ouest, has been awarded the £120 million contract to design and construct the track and overhead line system on Section 2 of the CTRL for Union Railways North. The 39 kilometre Section 2 runs from London's St Pancras station to Ebbsfleet in Kent, taking in around 21 kilometres of tunnels under the Thames and urban London. Due for completion in 2006, the project is a critical element of the new high speed rail link which will halve the current journey times on the route between central London and the Channel Tunnel. Carillion Chief Executive John McDonough said, 'This further success for Carillion Rail underlines the strength of our rail infrastructure services capability and the success of our strategy to grow this important area of our business. 'This is an exciting opportunity to construct the UK's first high speed railway and recognises our commitment to the highest standards of safety and quality and to working in collaboration with our partners and customers.'
