Business and construction services group Carillion has secured road maintenance

The first contract consists of 1,380 single lane kilometres of highway in the
vicinity of the communities of Barrie and Orillia. The contract is for nine
years starting in October 2004 and valued at £32 million.
The second contract also starting in October 2004, involves 1,850 single lane

at £29 million over eight years.
The third contract, valued at £43 million is in Thunder Bay and is for 2,836

Carillion's chief executive John McDonough said: 'These recent contract wins are
in line with Carillion's strategy to grow our support services activities in our
international regional businesses.
'Our road maintenance business in Canada has been particularly successful and
will in future maintain nearly 40 per cent of the Ontario municipal road
network.'
The scope of the work includes summer and winter road patrolling, summer
maintenance of roads and shoulders, minor bridge maintenance, wayside rest area
maintenance, vegetation management, electrical (illumination, traffic lights),
ditch and culvert maintenance, winter maintenance (snow ploughing, sanding, dry
salting, pre-wet salting and liquid anti-icing) and pavement markings.
