Carillion PLC 08 September 2004 8 September 2004 Carillion appointed preferred bidder for £180m Scottish schools PPP project Business and construction services company Carillion and its joint venture partners have been appointed preferred bidder for a PPP project to build ten new schools on the outskirts of Glasgow with a construction value of approximately £100 million. The project will also generate concession company turnover for Carillion of some £80 million. Carillion will carry out the construction works on nursery, primary and secondary schools for Renfrewshire Council as part of a joint venture with Amey UK plc and HBOS to provide state-of-the-art facilities for over 6,000 children located in Paisley, Linwood and Johnstone. Construction will start in January 2005 with completion in October 2007. Commenting on the appointment, Carillion's chief executive John McDonough said: 'The provision of new facilities on nine sites through this public/private partnership will create first class accommodation for combining full-time educational needs with adult community learning. 'This integrated approach to the provision of educational facilities to meet a wide variety of needs is designed to provide optimum flexibility for the constantly evolving world of education.'
