Carillion wins £110 million contract for London-Glasgow rail electrification
Support services and construction company Carillion is pleased to announce that
GTBB, a 50:50 joint venture between Carillion and Balfour Beatty, has been
awarded a £110 million contract by Network Rail for the rail electrification on
the West Coast Mainline between London and Glasgow.
GTBB will be responsible for modernising the overhead line equipment and power
distribution infrastructure on the West Coast Mainline. The contract will
deliver 13 feeder stations and 620 miles of along-track high-voltage feeder to
support faster train speeds and heavier traffic on Britain's busiest rail route.
This contract follows the successful completion by the GTBB joint venture,
working in partnership with Network Rail, of the first phase of the West Coast
Mainline Overhead Line Electrification and Distribution upgrade.
Commenting on the appointment, John McDonough, Carillion's chief executive said:
'Rail infrastructure continues to be an important and successful market for
Carillion. We are therefore delighted with the award of this new contract, which
reflects Carillion's absolute focus on safety, quality and performance and
reinforces our position as one of the UK's leading suppliers of rail
infrastructure services.'
