CarillionEnterprise appointed preferred bidder on Regional Prime Central
contract worth in excess of £500 million
A joint venture between support services and construction company Carillion and
support service company Enterprise has been selected as the preferred bidder for
a Regional Prime Central contract with a contract value in excess of £500million
plus discrete construction work to maintain the Ministry of Defence's built
estate and non-PFI new build and refurbishment.
'CarillionEnterprise', comprising Carillion with a 50% stake and Enterprise
(50%), will be responsible for maintenance, new build and refurbishment of
around 8,500 buildings and other infrastructure from the Scottish border through
the North of England, to the Humber, Midlands and throughout Wales over a
seven-year period, with the potential for a three-year extension.
Significant mobilisation activity will take place before the contract start date
of April 2006.
Commenting on the appointment, John McDonough, Carillion's chief executive said:
'We are delighted to have been selected for this second major defence services
contract in as many weeks. Government's outsourcing of support services is a
major growth market and defence is one of our key sectors.
'The heart of our approach is to introduce innovative ways of working that will
enable the Ministry of Defence to maximise value for money through improved
efficiency and the delivery of leading-edge supply chain management.'
Vice Admiral Peter Dunt, Defence Estates chief executive, added: 'Defence
Estates is committed to Regional Prime contracts and I am confident that, in
taking forward CarillionEnterprise's proposals, we will develop a long-term,
positive, mutually-beneficial relationship in order to obtain improved service
delivery and greater value-for-money for the defence estate in England & Wales.'
