                             APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR


The  Board  of Directors of Caspian Minerals Plc ("Caspian" or "the Company)  is
pleased  to  announce the appointment of Mr Nurlan Assilbekov  as  an  Executive
Director and Chief Executive with effect from 8 July 2009.

Mr Nurlan Assilbekov has been with the Company since the beginning of this year.
Previously,  he was Assistant Vice President with Barclays Capital's  Structured
Funds Group in New York from 2004. He holds and has held no other directorships.

Mr Alessandro Manghi's role has changed from Executive Director to Non-Executive
Director.

The  Directors  of  the Company accept responsibility for the contents  of  this
announcement.
