Dinkie Heel PLC
4 April 2002
Dinkie Heel plc announces today that it is planning to move its production of
steel toe caps to a jointly owned factory in Botswana during 2002/3 in order to
reduce production costs and improve its competitiveness in world markets.
Production of toe caps in the Bristol factory will cease and sadly redundancies
are an inevitable consequence of this decision.
International marketing and European distribution of toe caps will still take
place from Bristol. The Bristol premises will continue to be the distribution
centre for the Phillips Rubber products which are now made under licence in
South Africa. Certain engineering functions, such as tool-making and mould
making, will also be retained in Bristol to support the overseas toe cap and
rubber production units.
The company's profitable Davies Odell operations in Northamptonshire continue
their expansion and diversification away from the footwear industry and are
unaffected by these changes.
It is expected that the Preliminary Results for 2001 will be published on 3 May
2002.
