THE CHARACTER GROUP ENTER JOINT VENTURE AGREEMENT
with
COPYRIGHT PROMOTIONS LICENSING GROUP
The Character Group plc today announce that it has entered into a joint
venture agreement with The Copyright Promotions Licensing Group PLC ('CPLG'),
one of the world's leading entertainment, sports and brands licensing
agencies.
The aim of the joint venture company, Character Promotions Limited, is to
create and develop leisure products by utilising The Character Group's design,
sourcing and distribution facilities whilst also drawing upon CPLG's licensing
expertise and pan-European network of offices.
The joint venture will initially build a select pan-European merchandising
programme for Euro 2000TM for which CPLG is exclusive licensing agency. The
focus will be on all core product categories including novelty gifts, drinks
bottles, glassware, stationery, bags and toys including plush items.
Richard King, Chairman, The Character Group plc commented:
'This is a ground breaking agreement for The Character Group which could well
create a model for future transactions. We have previously worked as a
licensee with Copyright Promotions and believe that their professional
approach, and experience in the sports marketing field, will ensure that
together we can make this venture a success.'
Richard Culley, Joint Chief Executive, CPLG, added:
'We are delighted to have concluded this joint venture agreement with The
Character Group, one of the most prominent and successful players in the
leisure products sector. There are real synergies between our two businesses:
through pooling the resources of CPLG's twenty-five years' of licensing
experience with The Character Group's impressive design, development,
marketing and distribution operation, we are convinced that the joint venture
will prove a success. CPLG's unique pan-European office network will help
provide ready-made distribution channels for the venture.'
The Character Group plc and CPLG have each subscribed £50 towards the share
