                    The Character Group plc ('the Company')
                    Market Purchase of Company's Own Shares


Notification is given that pursuant to the authority granted at the Annual
General Meeting of the Company held on 21 January 2004 to make market purchases
of the Company's own shares, a market purchase of 60,000 ordinary shares of 5
pence each in the capital of the Company was made today at a price of 100 pence
per share. Following this purchase and cancellation there will be 52,696,509
shares in issue.

Since the announcement of the Interim Results yesterday, the Company has now
bought back a total of 100,000 shares for cancellation all at 100 pence per
share.
