Pre-Close Period Trading Update
Cineworld Group plc ('Cineworld' or the 'Group') will publish its interim
results for the six months ended 28th June 2007 on 20th September 2007. Prior
to entering its close period, Cineworld issues the following update.
The UK Cinema industry has enjoyed a strong first half of 2007 with UK industry
box office up 9.5% on the same period last year according to information
collated by Nielsen EDI. This reflects a robust film release schedule in the
first six months of this year, set against a weaker comparable period in 2006
which included the Football World Cup. Films such as Pirates of the Caribbean:At
World's End, Spiderman 3, Mr Bean's Holiday and Hot Fuzz, have all performed
well at the box office.
Against this healthy industry backdrop, Cineworld increased its market share of
box office to 23.9% from 23.4% in the six months to end June 2007.
The results for the first six months of the year will also include an eight week
contribution from our new cinema in Didcot which opened in May 2007, increasing
the total size of the Cineworld portfolio to 73 sites and 758 screens.
Overall the outlook for the full year is very encouraging, although the
comparables will become more challenging in the second half of the year due to
the strong closing months of 2006, which featured the year's biggest
blockbuster, Casino Royale.
