                   Appointment of New Non-Executive Director


The City of London Investment Trust plc is pleased to announce the appointment
of Mr Richard Hextall as a non-executive director to the Board with effect from
Thursday 1 November 2007.

Mr Hextall (age 39) is the Group Finance Director of Amlin plc and a director of
the Lloyd's Market Association Board. Prior to joining Amlin, Mr Hextall was
employed by Deloitte & Touche.

In accordance with paragraphs 9.6.13 (1) to (6) of the Listing Rules, it is
confirmed that there are no additional details to be disclosed in relation to Mr
Hextall.
