Declaration of Dividend Payment

Dividend on the Ordinary Shares

Following a review, the Board of The City of London Investment Trust plc has decided to pay a quarterly dividend of 3.08p per ordinary share.

A third interim dividend of 3.08p per ordinary share of 25p, in respect of the year ending 30 June 2009, will therefore be paid on 29 May 2009 to holders registered at the close of business on 24 April 2009. The Company's shares will go ex-dividend on 22 April 2009.  

The Board also intends to pay a fourth interim dividend of 3.08p per share (this does not represent a profit forecast) for the year to 30 June 2009. The fourth interim dividend will be declared in July 2009.  This will make a total dividend for the year to 30 June 2009 of 12.32p per share, an increase of 6.2% over the previous year.
