Dividend Resolution - 29 August 2008

The Board of The City of London Investment Trust plc announces:

Dividend on the Ordinary Shares

That a first interim dividend of 3.08p per Ordinary Share of 25p, in respect of the year ending 30 June 2009, be paid on 28 November 2008 to holders registered at the close of business on 24 October 2008. The Company's shares will go ex-dividend on 22 October 2008.

The Board is also forecasting a minimum dividend of 12.32p per share for the year to 30 June 2009, an increase of 6.2% on an annual basis. The quarterly rate will next be considered when the Company's third interim dividend is declared in March 2009, by which time the Board will be able to assess better the trend in the income performance of the portfolio.
