THE CITY OF LONDON INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

The Board of The City of London Investment Trust plc announces that:

(a)    Dividend on the Ordinary Shares

A fourth interim dividend of 2.96p per Ordinary Share of 25p, in respect of the year ending 30 June 2008, will be paid on Friday 29 August 2008 to holders registered at the close of business on 25 July 2008. The Company's shares will go ex-dividend on 23 July 2008.

The total dividend for the year to 30 June 2008 will be 11.6p per share, an increase of 12.6% over the previous year. 

(b)    Dividends on the Preference and Preferred Ordinary Stocks

The dividends for the half year will be paid on Friday 29 August 2008 at 

3.0% on £301,982 Cumulative First Preference Stock

2.1% on £507,202 Non-Cumulative Second Preference Stock

10.0% on £589,672 Non-Cumulative Preferred Ordinary Stock 

to holders registered at the close of business on 25 July 2008.
