TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Close Brothers Group plc announces that on Friday 27 June 2008 it purchased 91,294 ordinary shares at an average price of 532 pence. The highest and lowest price paid for these shares were 536.50 pence and 529.50 pence respectively. The purchased shares will all be held as treasury shares for the purpose of satisfying option grants and share awards made under the Company's employee share plans.

Following the purchase of these shares, Close Brothers Group plc holds 91,294 of its ordinary shares in treasury and has 149,291,630 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
