                   Notification of Major Interests in Shares


Guinness Peat Group plc ("GPG") announces that on 29 March 2007 it received a
TR1 Notice from BlackRock Inc ("BlackRock"), regarding the reclassification
under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules of its holding in the ordinary
shares of GPG ("Shares").  BlackRock now holds, indirectly, 46,295,914 Shares
(4.03%).  As a result of this reclassification of its holding this is no longer
a notifiable interest.
