PARTIAL TAKEOVER OFFER FOR TANDOU LIMITED

IN AUSTRALIA

Guinness Peat Group plc ("GPG") announces that a wholly-owned subsidiary within its Australian operations has advised Tandou Limited ("Tandou") that it intends to make a takeover offer for 50% of each of that company's members' fully paid ordinary shares.

A copy of the letter sent to the Chairman of Tandou has been sent to the Australian Securities Exchange and is today released to the New Zealand Stock Exchange for information.
