Saint-Gobain enters Spanish Building Materials Distribution market

The Building Distribution Division of Saint-Gobain today announces the
acquisition by Point P of the assets and business of the Spanish company,
Mercader.  This building materials distributor generates annual sales of nearly
50 MEuro and has 200 employees in its 18 outlets, all located in Catalonia.

Mercader is the largest building materials distributor on the non-structured
Spanish market, providing an excellent route into this market for Saint-Gobain
Building Distribution.

The Building Distribution Division is already the market leader in France with
Point P and Lapeyre, as well as in the United Kingdom and in Germany, following
the purchase of Meyer and Raab Karcher in Spring 2000.  The Division is number 1
in Building Distribution in Europe, with annual sales of 9,7 MdEuro.
