Compagnie de Saint-Gobain 27 July 2000 Saint Gobain reinforces and makes more international its Management Team The Board of Directors of Saint Gobain has appointed Gian Paolo Caccini as Chief Operating Officer in replacement of Eric d'Hautefeuille, who had asked to be relieved of his operational responsibilities, in the course of its meeting held July 27th, 2000. Eric d'Hautefeuille, a Saint Gobain Director, will remain a member of the Executive Committee and becomes adviser to the Chairman in industrial matters. Philippe Crouzet has been appointed Senior Vice President, Finance. He will also be responsible for Information Technology and for Corporate Planning; and he will coordinate Groupe communications, in particular with financial investors. Jean-Francois Phelizon, Senior Vice President, will take over from Gian Paolo Caccini as Chief Operating Officer of Saint Gobain Corporation and as Saint Gobain General Delegate to the United States and Canada. The Executive Committee will now therefore comprise Jean-Louis Beffa, Chairman of Compagnie de Saint Gobain, Eric d'Hautefeuille, Gian Paolo Caccini, Philippe Crouzet and Bernard Field, Corporate Secretary of Saint-Gobain. Marc van Ossel is appointed Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Environment. On the operational management side, two new Divisional Presidents are appointed: Martin Ellis for Building Materials and Gilles Michel for Ceramics and Plastics. Gilles Colas is appointed President of the Abrasives Division. In view of the development of Saint-Gobain's activities in the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe and of Asia, a new more decentralised organisational structure is, being adopted: Paul Neeteson, is appointed General Delegate to Germany and Central and Eastern Europe. Patrick Roux-Vaillard is appointed General Delegate to the Asia-Pacific region. Anand Mahajan is appointed General Delegate to India. In Europe, Olivier du Boucheron is appointed General Delegate to the Benelux countries in replacement of Benoit Carpentier who becomes head of Bottles and Jars Europe in the Containers Division. These management changes will make the Group Management more international, give increased responsibility to younger top managers who have all had Group experience in several divisions or several countries.
