First-Quarter 2000 Consolidated Sales Up 13.6%

Groupe Lapeyre, which is 75%-owned by Saint Gobain, reported today that sales
rose by 13.6% to EUR 282 million (FRF 1,850 million) in the first three months
of 2000.

In France, the Group is evolving in a favorable business environment.  All the
companies of the Group enjoy continuing strong growth.  Lapeyre and K par K are
also benefiting from increased demand following the recent reduction in the VAT
rate.

Outside France, sales are unchanged compared to 1999 due to restructuring
programs underway in Germany.  Activities for retailing subsidiaries and for
operations in Poland are progressing.
